Explanatory note
This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.
These regulations, which come into force on 1 October 2004, amend the Fisheries (Commercial Fishing) Regulations 2001 to—
•remove the requirement to lodge applications for approval for southern bluefin tuna longline fishing not less than 6 weeks before the start of each fishing year:
•remove the minimum net mesh size for taking eels (and remove some ambiguity as to whether some provisions refer to 1 or more eels):
•remove the requirement for eel fishers to hold a permit that expressly authorises the taking of eels using a fyke net, hinaki, or set net.
