This order, which comes into force on the 28th day after its notification in the Gazette, amends Schedules 1 and 5 of the Wildlife Act 1953. Canada goose is omitted from Schedule 1, which lists wildlife declared to be game. The item relating to Canada goose in Schedule 5 is amended to remove the reference to the Chatham Islands.

The effect of the amendments is that Canada geese cease to be classified as game and become completely unprotected wildlife throughout New Zealand, including the Chatham Islands.

This order is administered by the Department of Conservation.
