Pursuant to section 71 of the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Act 2011, His Excellency the Governor-General makes the following order, acting—

(a)

on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council; and

(b)

on the recommendation of the relevant Minister following the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Review Panel’s review of a draft of the order.

Order

1 Title

This order is the Canterbury Earthquake (Social Security Act) Order (No 2) 2010 Amendment Order 2012.

2 Commencement

This order comes into force on 30 March 2012.

3 Expiry

This order expires on the close of 31 March 2014.

4 Principal order

This order amends the Canterbury Earthquake (Social Security Act) Order (No 2) 2010 (the principal order).

5 Clause 3 amended (Expiry)

In clause 3, replace “31 March 2012” with “31 March 2014.”

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This Order in Council, which comes into force on 30 March 2012 and expires on 31 March 2014, defers the expiry of the Canterbury Earthquake (Social Security Act) Order (No 2) 2010 for 2 years.

The Canterbury Earthquake (Social Security Act) Order (No 2) 2010 authorises the payment of accommodation supplements to homeowners in specified areas of Canterbury who are otherwise eligible but—

  • no longer live in their homes as a result of damage caused by the Canterbury earthquakes; or

  • must vacate their homes for a period of time while repairs are being carried out.

This Order in Council is made under the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Act 2011 and its effect is temporary.
