These regulations are administered by the Department of Internal Affairs.

Pursuant to section 40 of the Passports Act 1992, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council, makes the following regulations.

Regulations

1 Title

These regulations are the Passport (Fees) Amendment Regulations 2012.

2 Commencement

These regulations come into force on 2 November 2012.

3 Principal regulations

These regulations amend the Passport (Fees) Regulations 1996 (the principal regulations).

4 New regulation 7B inserted (Online fees)

After regulation 7A, insert:

7B Online fees

The fees set out in Part 3 of the Schedule are payable for applications lodged online through an Internet site maintained by or on behalf of the Secretary.

5 Regulation 9 replaced (Goods and services tax included)

Replace regulation 9 with:

9 Goods and services tax

The fees prescribed by these regulations are expressed exclusive of any goods and services tax payable under the Goods and Services Tax Act 1985.

6 Schedule replaced

Replace the Schedule with the Schedule set out in the Schedule of these regulations.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.

These regulations, which come into force on 2 November 2012, amend the Passport (Fees) Regulations 1996 (the principal regulations).

The amendments—

  • introduce a new fee for passport applications lodged online; and

  • reduce the fee for adult passport paper applications lodged in New Zealand; and

  • express all of the fees in the principal regulations exclusive of goods and services tax (after taking into account the 1 October 2010 goods and services tax increase).
