This notice is administered by the Ministry for Primary Industries.

Pursuant to section 186B of the Fisheries Act 1996, the Director-General of the Ministry for Primary Industries, after complying with the requirements of that section, gives the following notice.

1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Huriawa Peninsula Temporary Closure) Notice 2014.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on 26 October 2014.

3 Revocation of this notice

This notice is revoked on the close of 24 September 2016.

4 Area closed for taking of paua

(1)

A person must not take any paua from the Huriawa Peninsula closure area.

(2)

In this clause, Huriawa Peninsula closure area means all those South Island fisheries waters enclosed by a line—

(a)

commencing at a point on the mean high-water mark at 45°38.44′S and 170°39.81′E; then

(b)

proceeding in a straight line in a north-westerly direction to a point 50 m offshore at 45°38.41′S and 170°39.80′E; then

(c)

proceeding in a generally easterly direction then in a generally westerly direction around the Huriawa Peninsula along a line every point of which is 50 m from the mean high-water mark to a point offshore that is 50 m south of the mean high-water mark at 45°38.57′S and 170°39.78′E; then

(d)

proceeding in a straight line in a north-westerly direction to a point at 45°38.54′S and 170°39.77′E; then

(e)

proceeding in a generally easterly direction then in a generally westerly direction along the mean high-water mark around the Huriawa Peninsula to the point of commencement.

5 Revocation

The Fisheries (Huriawa Peninsula Temporary Closure) Notice 2012 (SR 2012/300) is revoked.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice, which comes into force on 26 October 2014, prohibits the taking of paua from the Huriawa Peninsula closure area. The notice remains in force for 2 years after the date of its notification in the Gazette.
