Explanatory note
This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.
These regulations, which come into force on 2 April 2015, amend the Electronic Identity Verification Regulations 2013 (the principal regulations). The principal regulations are made under the Electronic Identity Verification Act 2012 (the Act).
The Act provides for the Electronic Identity Verification Service (the Service). Among other things, the Service enables a person to verify his or her identity by electronic means in order to meet the identification requirements of participating agencies in relation to certain transactions and services. The Service also enables entities that are declared by regulations to be participating agencies to verify a person’s identity by electronic means, provided they have the person’s consent to verification using the Service.
These regulations add 9 bodies to those declared by regulation 4 of the principal regulations to be participating agencies for the purposes of the Act.
