Pursuant to regulation 9 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999, the Minister for Primary Industries gives the following notice.

Notice

1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Te Rūnanga o Ōnuku) Notice 2015.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

3 Revocation of this notice

This notice is revoked on 29 January 2020.

4 Customary food gathering area/rohe moana

This notice applies to the customary food gathering area/rohe moana defined by clause 2(d) of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Notice (No. 38) 2002 (Gazette 2002, p 4487).

5 Reappointment

(1)

The Minister for Primary Industries has appointed Henare Robinson for a further term as a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the customary food gathering area/rohe moana.

(2)

The appointment—

(a)

took effect on 29 January 2015; and

(b)

expires at the close of 28 January 2020.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice is made under the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999 (the regulations). It comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette and revokes itself on 29 January 2020.

This notice relates to a customary food gathering area/rohe moana of the tangata whenua represented by Te Rūnanga o Ōnuku.

Notice is given of the reappointment of a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the customary food gathering area/rohe moana. The Minister for Primary Industries reappointed the Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki under regulation 9(5) of the regulations at the request of Te Rūnanga o Ōnuku.

The Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for a customary food gathering area/rohe moana may authorise any individual to take fish, aquatic life, or seaweed for customary food-gathering purposes from within the area/rohe moana.
