Pursuant to regulations 9 and 10 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999, the Minister for Primary Industries gives the following notice.

1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Wairewa Rūnanga) Notice 2015.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

3 Revocation of this notice

This notice is revoked on 28 May 2020.

4 Customary food gathering area/rohe moana

This notice applies to the customary food gathering area/rohe moana that is the freshwater area defined by clause 2(c) of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Notice (No. 4) 2010 (Gazette 2010, p 1716).

5 Appointment cancelled

(1)

The Minister for Primary Industries has cancelled the appointment of John Boyles as a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana.

(2)

The cancellation took effect at the end of 27 May 2015.

6 Reappointments

The Minister for Primary Industries has appointed the following people for a further term as Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana:

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice is made under the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999 (the regulations). It comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette and revokes itself on 28 May 2020.

This notice relates to a customary food gathering area/rohe moana of the tangata whenua represented by the Wairewa Rūnanga.

Notice is given of—

  • the cancellation of an appointment of a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana:

  • the reappointment of 6 Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana.

The Minister for Primary Industries cancelled the appointment under regulation 10(1) of the regulations and made the reappointments under regulation 9(5) of the regulations. The Minister took these actions at the request of the Wairewa Rūnanga.

The Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for a customary food gathering area/rohe moana may authorise any individual to take fish, aquatic life, or seaweed for customary food gathering purposes from within the area/rohe moana.
