Explanatory note
This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.
The Tariff (Free Trade Agreement between New Zealand and the Republic of Korea) Amendment Act 2015 amends the Tariff Act 1988 and the notes to the Tariff as part of the implementation of a free trade agreement, namely the Free Trade Agreement between New Zealand and the Republic of Korea done at Seoul, Korea, on 23 March 2015 (the Agreement). The amendments enable—
the application of preferential tariff rates under the Agreement; and
transitional safeguard measures to be applied in appropriate circumstances on imports originating from Korea.
At the time of the making of this order, the text of the Agreement was available at https://korea.fta.govt.nz/
The Agreement will also be implemented by regulations—
to enable the application of preferential tariff rates for goods imported from Korea; and
to give effect to the rules of origin and product-specific rules for goods imported from Korea.
The regulations are—
the Tariff (Free Trade Agreement between New Zealand and the Republic of Korea) Amendment Order 2015; and
Issued under the authority of the Legislation Act 2012.
