Pursuant to regulation 10 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999, the Minister for Primary Industries gives the following notice.

Notice

1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Te Rūnanga o Kaikōura) Notice 2016.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

3 Revocation of this notice

This notice is revoked at the end of 30 October 2021.

4 Customary food gathering area/rohe moana

This notice applies to the customary food gathering area/rohe moana defined by clause 2(c) of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Notice (No. 4) 2011 (Gazette 2011, p 1694), which is an area along the Kaikōura coast between the Clarence and Hurunui Rivers.

5 Appointments cancelled

(1)

The Minister for Primary Industries has cancelled the appointment of the following people as Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana:

(a)

Sara Watson:

(b)

Taikorekore Stirling:

(c)

Darren Kerei Keepa.

(2)

The cancellations for Sara Watson and Darren Kerei Keepa took effect at the end of 26 May 2016.

(3)

The cancellation for Taikorekore Stirling took effect at the end of 30 October 2016.

6 New appointments

(1)

The Minister for Primary Industries has appointed the following people as Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana:

Ranald McDonald:

(c)

Taukiri Manawatu.

(2)

The appointments—

(a)

took effect on 31 October 2016; and

(b)

expire at the end of 30 October 2021.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice is made under the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999 (the regulations). It comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette and revokes itself at the end of 30 October 2021.

The notice relates to a customary food gathering area/rohe moana of the tangata whenua represented by Te Rūnanga o Kaikōura. The area/rohe moana is an area along the Kaikōura coast between the Clarence and Hurunui Rivers.

Notice is given of the cancellation of the appointments of 3 Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana and the appointment of replacements. The Minister for Primary Industries cancelled the appointments and made the replacement appointments at the request of Te Rūnanga o Kaikōura.

The powers of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki are set out in the regulations.
