Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Ngāti Kuta-Patukeha) Notice 2017

Pursuant to regulation 10 of the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998, the Director-General of the Ministry for Primary Industries gives the following notice.

Notice

1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Ngāti Kuta-Patukeha) Notice 2017.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

3 Customary food gathering area/rohe moana

This notice applies to the customary food gathering area/rohe moana defined by clause 4 of the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Notice (No. 4) 2012 (Gazette 2012, p 2737), which is an area from the Haumi River mouth to Taupiri Bay.

4 Tangata whenua

The tangata whenua of the area/rohe moana are the hapū specified in clause 5 of the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Notice (No. 4) 2012 (Gazette 2012, p 2737).

5 Appointment cancelled

(1)

The Minister for Primary Industries has cancelled the appointment of Sonny George as a Tangata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for the area/rohe moana.

(2)

The cancellation took effect at the end of 16 February 2017.

6 New appointment

(1)

The Minister for Primary Industries has appointed Kara George as a Tangata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for the area/rohe moana.

(2)

The appointment took effect on 17 February 2017.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice is made under the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998 (the regulations). It comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

The notice relates to a customary food gathering area/rohe moana of the tangata whenua represented by Ngāti Kuta-Patukeha. The area/rohe moana is an area from the Haumi River mouth to Taupiri Bay.

Notice is given of the cancellation of 1 Tangata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for the area/rohe moana and the appointment of a replacement Tangata Kaitiaki/Tiaki. The Minister for Primary Industries made the appointment at the request of the Waikare Maori Committee acting for Te Hapu o Te Kapotai.

The powers of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki are set out in the regulations.
