Pursuant to regulation 22 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999, the Minister for Primary Industries gives the following notice.

Notice

1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Waihao Mātaitai Reserve) Notice 2017.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

3 Revocation of this notice

This notice is revoked on 11 September 2022.

4 Mātaitai reserve

This notice applies to Waihao Mātaitai Reserve, northeast of Waimate in South Canterbury, that was declared by the Fisheries (Declaration and Notification of Waihao Mātaitai Reserve and Appointment of Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki) Notice 2012 (Gazette 2012, p 2738).

5 Reappointments

The Minister for Primary Industries has appointed the following people for a further term as Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the mātaitai reserve:

The appointments—

take effect on 12 September 2017; and

(b)

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice is made under the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999 (the regulations). It comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette and revokes itself on 11 September 2022.

The notice relates to Waihao Mātaitai Reserve, which is located northeast of Waimate in South Canterbury. The tangata whenua of the area that includes the mātaitai reserve are represented by Te Rūnanga o Waihao.

Notice is given of the reappointment of 5 Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the mātaitai reserve. The Minister for Primary Industries has made the reappointments at the request of Te Rūnanga o Waihao.

The powers of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki are set out in the regulations.
