Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Ngā Kaitiaki o Te Puaha—Te Awamaarahi Marae) Notice 2017

Pursuant to regulation 10 of the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998, the Director-General of the Ministry for Primary Industries gives the following notice.

1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Ngā Kaitiaki o Te Puaha—Te Awamaarahi Marae) Notice 2017.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

3 Customary food gathering area/rohe moana

This notice applies to the customary food gathering area/rohe moana defined by clause 2(d) of the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Notice (No. 10) 2007 (Gazette 2007, p 3373), which is an area from Okarahia, at the mouth of the Waikato River, to Ngatutura Point.

4 Tangata whenua

The tangata whenua of the area/rohe moana are Ngā Kaitiaki o Te Puaha.

5 Appointment cancelled

(1)

The Minister for Primary Industries has cancelled the appointment of George Hori Te Kanawa Katipa as a Tangata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for the area/rohe moana.

(2)

The cancellation took effect at the end of 30 April 2017.

6 New appointment

(1)

The Minister for Primary Industries has appointed Hero Potini as a Tangata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for the area/rohe moana.

(2)

The appointment took effect on 1 May 2017.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice is made under the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998 (the regulations). It comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

This notice relates to a customary food gathering area/rohe moana of the Ngā Kaitiaki o Te Puaha represented by Te Awamaarahi Marae. The area/rohe moana is an area from Okarahia, at the mouth of the Waikato River, to Ngatutura Point.

Notice is given of the cancellation of the appointment of a Tangata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for the area/rohe moana and the appointment of a replacement. The Minister for Primary Industries cancelled the appointment and made the replacement appointment at the request of Te Awamaarahi Marae.

The powers of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki are set out in the regulations.
