Explanatory note

This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.

These regulations, which come into force on 12 July 2017, amend the Accident Compensation (Motor Vehicle Account Levies) Regulations 2017 (the principal regulations).

The principal regulations prescribe the rates of motor vehicle levy, motorcycle safety levy, and fuel levy. These regulations replace regulation 6 of the principal regulations. Regulation 6 specifies the annual motor vehicle levy payable for a light passenger vehicle listed in Schedule 2 of the principal regulations. These regulations make small adjustments to the annual motor vehicle levies for all specified categories of light passenger vehicle. The adjustments to the levy payable on registering a light passenger vehicle range from a decrease in the levy per vehicle of $1.49 to an increase of $0.62.

The principal regulations, as made on 18 April 2017, are accompanied by a detailed explanatory note and information relating to the regulatory impact statement supporting those regulations.

Issued under the authority of the Legislation Act 2012.

Date of notification in Gazette: 11 July 2017.
