Pursuant to regulation 22 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999, the Minister for Primary Industries gives the following notice.

Notice

1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Ōkārito Lagoon Mātaitai Reserve) Notice 2017.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on 13 September 2017.

3 Revocation of this notice

This notice is revoked at the end of 12 September 2018.

4 Mātaitai reserve

This notice applies to Ōkārito Lagoon Mātaitai Reserve, on the west coast of the South Island, that was declared by the Fisheries (Declaration and Notification of Ōkārito Lagoon Mātaitai Reserve and Appointment of Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki) Notice 2012 (Gazette 2012, p 2739).

5 Reappointments

The Minister for Primary Industries has appointed the following people for a further term as Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the mātaitai reserve:

The appointments—

(a)

take effect on 13 September 2017; and

(b)

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice is made under the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999 (the regulations). It comes into force on 13 September 2017 and revokes itself on 12 September 2018.

The notice relates to Ōkārito Lagoon Mātaitai Reserve, which is on the west coast of the South Island. The tangata whenua of the area that includes the mātaitai reserve are represented by Te Rūnanga o Makaawhio.

Notice is given of the reappointment of 5 Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the mātaitai reserve. The Minister for Primary Industries made the reappointments at the request of Te Rūnanga o Makaawhio.

The powers of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki are set out in the regulations.
