Pursuant to regulation 9 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999, the Minister for Primary Industries gives the following notice.

1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Te Rūnanga o Makaawhio) Notice 2017.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on 3 August 2017.

3 Revocation of this notice

This notice is revoked at the end of 2 August 2018.

4 Customary food gathering area/rohe moana

This notice applies to the customary food gathering area/rohe moana defined by clause 3(b) of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Notice (No 2) 2007 (Gazette 2007, p 2258), which is an area from the Pouerua River to the Hokitika River on the west coast of the South Island.

5 Reappointment

(1)

The Minister for Primary Industries has appointed Richard Rangi Wallace for a further term as a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana.

(2)

The appointment—

(a)

takes effect on 3 August 2017; and

(b)

expires at the end of 2 August 2018.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice is made under the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999 (the regulations). It comes into force on 3 August 2017 and revokes itself at the end of 2 August 2018.

This notice relates to a customary food gathering area/rohe moana of the tangata whenua represented by Te Rūnanga o Makaawhio. The area/rohe moana is an area from the Pouerua River to the Hokitika River on the west coast of the South Island.

Notice is given of the reappointment of 1 Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana. The Minister for Primary Industries made the reappointment at the request of Te Rūnanga o Makaawhio.

The powers of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki are set out in the regulations.
