Pursuant to regulation 9 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999, the Minister for Primary Industries gives the following notice.

1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Te Taumutu Rūnanga) Notice 2017.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on 13 December 2017.

3 Revocation of this notice

This notice is revoked at the end of 12 December 2022.

4 Customary food gathering area/rohe moana

This notice applies to the customary food gathering area/rohe moana defined by clause 2(d) of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Notice (No. 36) 2002 (Gazette 2002, p 4486), which is an area from the northern bank of the Hakatere River to Ounu Hau Point at Pōhatu that includes Te Waihora (Lake Ellesmere) and its catchment, but excludes Te Wairewa (Lake Forsyth).

5 Reappointments

The Minister for Primary Industries has appointed the following people for a further term as Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana:

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice is made under the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999 (the regulations). It comes into force on 13 December 2017 and revokes itself at the end of 12 December 2022.

The notice relates to a customary food gathering area/rohe moana of the tangata whenua represented by Te Taumutu Rūnanga. The area/rohe moana is an area from the northern bank of the Hakatere River to Ounu Hau Point at Pōhatu that includes Te Waihora (Lake Ellesmere) and its catchment, but excludes Te Wairewa (Lake Forsyth).

Notice is given of the reappointment of 4 Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana. The Minister for Primary Industries made the reappointments at the request of Te Taumutu Rūnanga.

The powers of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki are set out in the regulations.
