Explanatory note

This note is not part of the bylaws, but is intended to indicate their general effect.

These bylaws, which come into force on 1 October 2017, amend the Kahurangi National Park Bylaws 2009 (the bylaws) to—

  • extend the period during which a person may use a non-motorised vehicle on the Heaphy Track mountain biking route (the amendments extend the end of the period from 30 September to 30 November); and

  • clarify that electric power-assisted pedal cycles are motorised vehicles for the purposes of the bylaws (even though they are not within the definition of motor vehicle in the Land Transport Act 1998).

Issued under the authority of the Legislation Act 2012.

Date of notification in Gazette: 14 September 2017.

These bylaws are administered by the Ministry of Conservation.
