This order is made under section 115 of the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003β
on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council; and
on the recommendation of the Minister of Health made in accordance with section 115(3) of that Act.
This order is the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance (Designation of Oral Health Therapy as Health Profession) Order 2017.
This order comes into force on 18 January 2018.
Oral health therapy is designated as a health profession.
The oral health therapy profession is added to the professions in respect of which the Dental Council is appointed as an authority.

This order, which comes into force on 18 January 2018,β
designates oral health therapy as a health profession; and
provides that the Dental Council is the authority for the oral health therapy profession.
The effect of this order is that, as from 18 January 2018, the oral health therapy profession will be regulated under the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003.
The Ministry of Health produced a regulatory impact assessment on 18 July 2017 to help inform the decisions taken by the Government relating to the contents of this instrument.
