Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Tapaeururangi and Te Whānau a Kauaetangohia) Notice 2018

Pursuant to regulation 9 of the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998, the Minister of Fisheries gives the following notice.

Notice

1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for Area/ Rohe Moana of Tapaeururangi and Te Whānau a Kauaetangohia) Notice 2018.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on the 28th day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

3 Customary food gathering area/rohe moana

This notice applies to a customary food gathering area/rohe moana in the New Zealand fisheries waters (except South Island fisheries waters) within the following lines:

(a)

from the starting point at 37°32.550′S and 178°4.900′E; then

(b)

by a line in a due north direction to a point approximately 12 nautical miles offshore at 37°20.400ʹS and 178°4.900′E; then

(c)

proceeding in a generally easterly direction by a line, each point of which is 12 nautical miles from the mean high-water mark, to a point offshore at 37°20.365′S and 178°5.262′E; then

(d)

by a line in a due south direction to a point at 37°32.580′S and 178°5.262′E; then

(e)

by a line proceeding in a generally westerly direction along the mean high-water mark back to the starting point.

4 Tangata whenua

The tangata whenua of the area/rohe moana are Tapaeururangi, as represented by the Potaka Marae Committee, and Te Whānau a Kauaetangohia Hapū.

5 New appointments

The Minister of Fisheries has appointed the following people as Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for the area/rohe moana:

The appointments took effect on 10 December 2017.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice is made under the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998 (the regulations). The notice comes into force on the 28th day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

The notice relates to the customary food gathering area/rohe moana of the tangata whenua represented by the Potaka Marae Committee and Te Whānau a Kauaetangohia Hapū. The area/rohe moana is at Potikirua Point on the East Cape.

Notice is given of the appointment of 6 Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for the area/rohe moana. The Minister of Fisheries made the appointments at the request of Te Whānau a Kauaetangohia Hapū.

The powers of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki are set out in the regulations.
