This order is made under section 2 of the Maritime Crimes Amendment Act 2017 on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council.

This order is the Maritime Crimes Amendment Act 2017 Commencement Order 2018.

2 Commencement of Maritime Crimes Amendment Act 2017

The Maritime Crimes Amendment Act 2017 comes into force on 27 May 2018.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order brings the Maritime Crimes Amendment Act 2017 into force on 27 May 2018. That Act amends the Maritime Crimes Act 1999 in order to implement—

  • the Protocol of 2005 to the Convention for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against the Safety of Maritime Navigation, done at London on 14 October 2005; and

  • the Protocol of 2005 to the Protocol for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against the Safety of Fixed Platforms Located on the Continental Shelf, done at London on 14 October 2005.
