Fisheries (Notification of Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Horomamae Mātaitai Reserve) Notice 2018

Pursuant to regulation 22 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999, the Director-General of the Ministry for Primary Industries gives the following notice.

Notice

1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Horomamae Mātaitai Reserve) Notice 2018.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

3 Revocation of this notice

This notice is revoked on 28 April 2023.

4 Mātaitai reserve

This notice applies to Horomamae Mātaitai Reserve, at Horomamae/Owen Island on the east side of Stewart Island/Rakiura, that was declared by the Fisheries (Declaration of Horomamae Mātaitai Reserve and Appointment of Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki) Notice 2010 (Gazette 2010, p 1850).

5 New appointment

(1)

The Minister of Fisheries has appointed John Colin Barry as a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the mātaitai reserve.

(2)

The appointment—

(a)

took effect on 28 April 2018; and

(b)

expires at the end of 27 April 2023.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice is given under the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999 (the regulations). It comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette and revokes itself on 28 April 2023.

The notice relates to Horomamae Mātaitai Reserve, at Horomamae/Owen Island on the east side of Stewart Island/Rakiura. The tangata whenua of the area that includes the mātaitai reserve are represented by Te Rūnanga o Awarua.

Notice is given of the appointment of a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the mātaitai reserve. The Minister of Fisheries made the appointment at the request of Te Rūnanga o Awarua.

The powers of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki are set out in the regulations.
