Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Te Rūnanga o Awarua) Notice (No 3) 2019

Pursuant to regulation 9 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999, the Minister of Fisheries gives the following notice.

1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Te Rūnanga o Awarua) Notice (No 3) 2019.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

3 Revocation of this notice

This notice is revoked at the end of 16 September 2023.

4 Customary food gathering area/rohe moana

This notice applies to the customary food gathering area/rohe moana defined by clause 2(c) of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Notice (No. 3) 1998 (Gazette 1998, p 3588), which is an area seaward and inland from Piopiotahi to Tokatā (Milford Sound to the Nuggets).

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice is given under the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999 (the regulations). It comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette and revokes itself at the end of 16 September 2023.

The notice relates to a customary food gathering area/rohe moana of the tangata whenua represented by Te Rūnanga o Awarua. The area/rohe moana is an area seaward and inland from Piopiotahi to Tokatā (Milford Sound to the Nuggets).

Notice is given of the reappointment of 7 Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana. The Minister of Fisheries made the reappointments at the request of Te Rūnanga o Awarua.

The powers of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki are set out in the regulations.
