Explanatory note
This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.
The notice relates to a customary food gathering area/rohe moana of the tangata whenua represented by Ngāti Hine/Ngāti Rāngo (Puatahi Marae), Ngāti Whātua Tūturu/Te Tao Ū (Haranui Marae), Ngāti Rāngo (Kakanui Marae), Te Tao Ū (Reweti Marae), and Ngāti Rāngo (Araparera Marae). The area/rohe moana is for an area on the west coast of Northland from Kakaraea (Karaka Point) on the Kaipara Harbour, southwards to Kirikiri Bay, extending seaward approximately 112 nautical miles on the northern boundary and 170 nautical miles on the southern boundary.
Notice is given of the appointment of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for the area/rohe moana. The Minister of Fisheries made the appointments at the request of Puatahi Marae, Haranui Marae, Kakanui Marae, Reweti Marae, and Araparera Marae.
The powers of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki are set out in the regulations.
