Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for Raukokere Mātaitai Reserve) Notice 2019

Pursuant to regulations 25 and 26 of the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998, the Director-General of the Ministry for Primary Industries gives the following notice.

Notice

1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for Raukokere Mātaitai Reserve) Notice 2019.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on 1 August 2019.

3 Mātaitai reserve

This notice applies to the mātaitai reserve at Raukokere, near East Cape, which was declared by the Fisheries (Declaration of Mātaitai Reserve at Raukokere and Appointment of Tangata Kaitiaki/Tiaki) Notice 2007 (Gazette 2007, p 2996).

4 Appointments cancelled

(1)

The Minister of Fisheries has cancelled the appointment of the following people as Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for the mātaitai reserve:

(a)

Matekoraha Eruera:

(b)

Keita Horowai Matchitt.

(2)

The cancellations took effect at the end of 5 December 2018.

5 New appointments

The Minister of Fisheries has appointed the following people as Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for the mātaitai reserve:

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice is made under the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998 (the regulations). It comes into force on 1 August 2019.

The notice relates to the Raukokere Mātaitai Reserve, which is near the East Cape. The tangata whenua of the area that includes the mātaitai reserve are represented by Te Whanau a Maruhaeremuri Hapū Trust.

Notice is given of—

  • the cancellation of the appointment of 2 Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for the mātaitai reserve; and

  • the appointment of 7 Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki, of which 2 are replacement appointments, for the mātaitai reserve.

The Minister of Fisheries made the cancellations and appointments at the request of Te Whanau a Maruhaeremuri Hapū Trust.

The powers of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki are set out in the regulations.
