Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Te Hapū o Ngāti Wheke) Notice 2019

Pursuant to regulation 9 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999, the Minister of Fisheries gives the following notice.

1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Te Hapū o Ngāti Wheke) Notice 2019.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on 23 September 2019.

3 Revocation of this notice

This notice is revoked at the end of 19 December 2023.

4 Customary food gathering area/rohe moana

This notice applies to the customary food gathering area/rohe moana defined by clause 2(c) of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Notice (No 45) 2003 (Gazette 2003, p 3683). The area/rohe moana extends from Shag Rock (South Shore Spit) to Adderley Head, excluding the Avon/Heathcote Estuary.

5 Reappointments

(1)

The Minister of Fisheries has appointed the following people for a further term as Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana:

(a)

Henry Couch:

(b)

Matea Gillies:

(c)

Manaia Rehu.

(2)

The appointment of Henry Couch—

(a)

took effect on 29 November 2018; and

(b)

expires at the end of 28 November 2023.

(3)

The appointments of Matea Gillies and Manaia Rehu—

(a)

took effect on 20 December 2018; and

(b)

expire at the end of 19 December 2023.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice is made under the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999 (the regulations). It comes into force on 23 September 2019 and revokes itself at the end of 19 December 2023.

The notice relates to a customary food gathering area/rohe moana of the tangata whenua represented by Te Hapū o Ngāti Wheke. The area/rohe moana extends from Shag Rock (South Shore Spit) to Adderley Head, excluding the Avon/Heathcote Estuary.

Notice is given of the reappointment of 3 Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana. The Minister of Fisheries made the reappointments at the request of Te Hapū o Ngāti Wheke.

The powers of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki are set out in the regulations.
