Fisheries (Notification of Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Te Rūnanga o Koukourārata) Notice 2019

Pursuant to regulation 9 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999, the Minister of Fisheries gives the following notice.

1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Te Rūnanga o Koukourārata) Notice 2019.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on 1 November 2019.

3 Revocation of this notice

This notice is revoked at the end of 8 September 2024.

4 Customary food gathering area/rohe moana

This notice applies to the customary food gathering area/rohe moana defined by clause 2(c) of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Notice (No. 8) 1999 (Gazette 1999, p 365), which is an area on Banks Peninsula from Koukourārata to Pōhatu Pā (Flea Bay), and including Koukourārata Harbour.

5 New appointment

(1)

The Minister of Fisheries has appointed Matiu Payne as a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana.

(2)

The appointment—

(a)

took effect on 9 September 2019; and

(b)

expires at the end of 8 September 2024.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice is made under the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999 (the regulations). It comes into force on 1 November 2019 and revokes itself at the end of 8 September 2024.

The notice relates to a customary food gathering area/rohe moana of the tangata whenua represented by Te Rūnanga o Koukourārata. The area/rohe moana is an area on Banks Peninsula from Koukourārata to Pōhatu Pā (Flea Bay), and including Koukourārata Harbour.

Notice is given of the appointment of a new Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana. The Minister of Fisheries made the appointment at the request of Te Rūnanga o Koukourārata.

The powers of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki are set out in the regulations.
