Explanatory note
This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.
The notice relates to 3 customary food gathering areas/rohe moana of the tangata whenua represented by Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Waewae on the West Coast of the South Island. The 3 areas/rohe moana are—
an area from the north bank of the Pouerua River to the Hokitika River; and
an area from the Hokitika River to the Kawatiri/Buller River; and
an area from the Kawatiri/Buller River to Kahurangi Point.
Notice is given of the cancellation of the appointment of a tangata tiaki/kaitiaki, and the appointment of a replacement, for each area/rohe moana. The Minister of Fisheries cancelled the appointments and made the replacement appointments at the request of Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Waewae.
The powers of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki are set out in the regulations.
