Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Waitutu Mātaitai Reserve) Notice 2019

Pursuant to regulation 22 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999, the Minister of Fisheries gives the following notice.

1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Waitutu Mātaitai Reserve) Notice 2019.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on 22 November 2019.

3 Revocation of this notice

This notice is revoked at the end of 11 December 2024.

4 Mātaitai reserve

This notice applies to the Waitutu Mātaitai Reserve, in Southland, between Riverton and Fiordland National Park, that was declared by the Fisheries (Declaration of Waitutu Mātaitai Reserve) Notice 2014 (Gazette 2014-dl7650).

5 Reappointments

(1)

The Minister of Fisheries has appointed the following people for a further term as Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the mātaitai reserve:

(a)

Graham Metzger:

(b)

John Simon:

(c)

Larraine White.

(2)

The appointments—

(a)

took effect on 7 August 2019; and

(b)

expire at the end of 6 August 2024.

The Minister of Fisheries has appointed Dene Cole for a further term as a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the mātaitai reserve.

The appointment—

(a)

takes effect on 12 December 2019; and

(b)

expires at the end of 11 December 2024.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice is made under the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999 (the regulations). It comes into force on 22 November 2019 and revokes itself at the end of 11 December 2024.

The notice relates to the Waitutu Mātaitai Reserve, which is in Southland, between Riverton and Fiordland National Park. The tangata whenua of the area that includes the mātaitai reserve are represented by Ōraka-Aparima Rūnaka.

Notice is given of the reappointment of 4 Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the mātaitai reserve. The Minister of Fisheries made the appointments at the request of Ōraka-Aparima Rūnaka.

The powers of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki are set out in the regulations.
