This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.
Section 2(2) of the Act specifies that the date the Act is brought into force must be the date on which the Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired, or Otherwise Print Disabled done at Marrakesh on 27 June 2013 (the Treaty) enters into force for New Zealand. That date is 3 months after New Zealand has deposited its instrument of accession to the Treaty.
New Zealand’s instrument of accession to the Treaty was deposited with the Director-General of the World Intellectual Property Organization in Geneva on 4 October 2019. The Treaty will therefore enter into force for New Zealand on 4 January 2020.
