These regulations, which come into force on 1 July 2020, relate to the definition of a primary production business in the Farm Debt Mediation Act 2019 (the Act). Farmers who are engaged in a primary production business, such as dairy farmers, grape growers, or shellfish farmers, are able to use the farm debt mediation scheme established by the Act. These regulations exclude business undertakings primarily involving forestry from the definition of primary production business. As a result, farmers whose primary business is forestry will be unable to use the farm debt mediation scheme to reach agreement in relation to debts relating to that business.
