Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God Queen of New Zealand and Her Other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith, to all to whom these presents shall come,

Greeting!

Whereas by a Warrant dated 6 February 1987 (SR 1987/67), We were pleased to institute and create an Order of Distinction styled and designated “The Order of New Zealand”, and did make, ordain, and establish Statutes for the governance of that Order, reserving to Us, Our Heirs, and Our Successors full power of annulling, altering, abrogating, augmenting, interpreting or dispensing with Our Warrant or any part thereof, by a notification under Our Sign Manual:

And whereas it appears to Us it is desirable that certain amendments be made to the Statutes:

We, therefore, in pursuance and exercise of the power vested in Us, declare Our pleasure that the Statutes be amended as set out below.

1 Commencement

This Our Warrant comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

2 Clause 7 replaced (Persons eligible for Ordinary Membership)

Replace clause 7 with:

7 Persons eligible for Ordinary Membership

Persons to be admitted as Ordinary Members of this Order shall be New Zealand citizens or citizens of Commonwealth Nations of which We are Sovereign.

3 Clause 8 replaced (Persons eligible for Honorary Membership)

Replace clause 8 with:

8 Persons eligible for Honorary Membership

Persons to be admitted as Honorary Members of this Order shall be persons who are not New Zealand citizens or citizens of Commonwealth Nations of which We are Sovereign.

4 Clause 9 amended (Qualifications for Membership)

In clause 9, delete “in a Civil or Military capacity”.

5 New clause 17A inserted (Lapel Badges)

After clause 17, insert:

17A Lapel Badges

(1)

A Lapel Badge may be worn by Members of this Order on those occasions it is inappropriate to wear the full-size Badge.

(2)

The Lapel Badge shall not exceed 18 mm by 12 mm in size, and shall consist of a small reproduction of the full-size Badge.

6 Clause 19 replaced (Method of wearing Badge)

Replace clause 19 with:

The Badge shall be worn suspended from the ribbon around the neck or from the ribbon tied in a bow and worn on the left shoulder.

7 Clause 20 replaced (Order of Wear)

Replace clause 20 with:

20 Order of Wear

Our Governor-General, acting on the advice of Our Prime Minister of New Zealand, may determine the order of wear of the Badge of this Order in relation to the insignia of orders, decorations, and medals that have been or may be conferred in Our Realm of New Zealand.

Given at Our Court at Saint James’s, this 9th day of April 2021, in the 70th Year of Our Reign.
