Health and Disability Services (Safety) Standards Notice 2021

Pursuant to sections 13 and 14(2) of the Health and Disability Services (Safety) Act 2001, and after complying with the requirements of section 18 of that Act, the Minister of Health gives the following notice.

Notice

1 Title

This notice is the Health and Disability Services (Safety) Standards Notice 2021.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on 28 February 2022.

3 Ngā Paerewa Health and Disability Services Standard approved

The Ngā Paerewa Health and Disability Services Standard NZS 8134:2021 is approved for providing health and disability services.

4 Revocations

(1)

The approval of the following standards is revoked:

(a)

the Health and Disability Services Standards NZS 8134:2008:

(b)

the Fertility Services Standard NZS 8181:2007.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice comes into force on 28 February 2022. It approves the Ngā Paerewa Health and Disability Services Standard NZS 8134:2021 (the 2021 standard) for providing health and disability services.

The 2021 standard replaces—

  • the Health and Disability Services Standards NZS 8134:2008, which comprises the following standards:

    • the Health and Disability Services (General) Standard NZS 8134.0:2008:

    • the Health and Disability Services (Core) Standards NZS 8134.1:2008:

    • the Health and Disability Services (Restraint Minimisation and Safe Practice) Standards NZS 8134.2:2008:

    • the Health and Disability Services (Infection Prevention and Control) Standards NZS 8134.3:2008; and

  • the Fertility Services Standard NZS 8181:2007.

This notice revokes the approvals of those standards and the notices that contain the approvals.
