Explanatory note

This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.

These regulations, which come into force on 1 April 2022, amend the Veterans’ Support Regulations 2014.

Regulation 4 amends regulation 16, which sets out a formula for certain entitlements under section 31 of the Veterans Support Act 2014 to be indexed against the New Zealand Consumers Price Index (the CPI). The effect is to provide that the formula will use the CPI (All Groups) figures instead of the CPI (All Groups excluding cigarettes and other tobacco products) figures. The change will align the treatment of veterans’ entitlements under the Veterans’ Support Act 2014 with the treatment of New Zealand Superannuation, the veteran’s pension, and other social security benefits and allowances.

Issued under the authority of the Legislation Act 2019.

Date of notification in Gazette: 17 March 2022.

These regulations are administered by the New Zealand Defence Force.
