These regulations are administered by the Ministry of Justice.
These regulations are made under section 140 of the Coroners Act 2006 on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council.
Regulations
1 Title
These regulations are the Coroners (Doctors Fees) Regulations 2022.
2 Commencement
These regulations come into force on 1 July 2022.
3 Application
These regulations apply to a written report under section 40 of the Act if the request for that report was made by a coroner on or after 1 July 2022 or by an associate coroner on or after 1 September 2024.

4 Interpretation
In these regulations,—
Act means the Coroners Act 2006
eligible doctor means a doctor who is not—
(a)
a salaried employee of a district health board; or
(b)
otherwise paid by a public service agency to write reports under section 40 of the Act as part of their regular duties.
5 Fee for writing report under section 40 of Act
(1)
A fee of the amount specified in subclause (2) is payable to an eligible doctor who has produced a written report to a coroner or an associate coroner under section 40 of the Act.
(2)
The fee is payable at a rate of $200 per hour plus goods and services tax, calculated on a pro rata basis rounded up to the nearest whole minute, up to a maximum fee payable of $800 plus goods and services tax.

1 General
This is a consolidation of the Coroners (Doctors Fees) Regulations 2022 that incorporates the amendments made to the legislation so that it shows the law as at its stated date.
2 Legal status
A consolidation is taken to correctly state, as at its stated date, the law enacted or made by the legislation consolidated and by the amendments. This presumption applies unless the contrary is shown.
