Explanatory note

This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.

These regulations amend the Motor Vehicle Sales Regulations 2003 (the principal regulations) and come into force on 1 August 2022. These regulations introduce a tiered fee structure for the prescribed fees that a motor vehicle trader must pay to apply for registration or renewal of registration under sections 31 and 39 of the Motor Vehicle Sales Act.

Previously, an individual and a company would pay the same amount of prescribed fees. The new prescribed fees are (excluding goods and services tax),—

  • for an individual applying for registration, $432:

  • for a company applying for registration, $863:

  • for an individual applying for renewal of registration, $401:

  • for a company applying for renewal of registration, $802.

These regulations also update other fee amounts in the principal regulations to be expressed as excluding goods and services tax.

Issued under the authority of the Legislation Act 2019.
