Rates Rebate (Specified Amounts) Order 2023

This order is made under section 3(2) of the Rates Rebate Act 1973 on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council.

Order

1 Title

This order is the Rates Rebate (Specified Amounts) Order 2023.

2 Commencement

This order comes into force on 1 July 2023.

3 Principal Act
4 Section 3 amended (Rates rebate)

(1)

In section 3(1)(a)(ii), replace “$28,080” with “$30,100”.

(2)

In section 3(1)(b), replace “$700” with “$750”.

5 Revocation

The Rates Rebate (Specified Amounts) Order 2022 (SL 2022/169) is revoked.

6 Saving

A ratepayer’s entitlement to a rebate for a rating year ending before 1 July 2023, and the amount (if any) of that rebate, must be determined as if this order had not been made.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order, which comes into force on 1 July 2023, amends section 3(1) of the Rates Rebate Act 1973. That section provides for a rates rebate for low-income home owners.

This order—

  • increases the income threshold for a rates rebate from $28,080 to $30,100; and

  • increases the maximum rates rebate from $700 to $750.
