Tokelau Islands Labour Order 1953

  • Tokelau Islands Labour Order 1953: revoked, on 20 September 2007, by section 9(2) of the Tokelau Amendment Act 2007 (2007 No 84).

PURSUANT to the Tokelau Islands Act 1948, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby makes the following order.

  • This order may be cited as the Tokelau Islands Labour Order 1953, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Union Islands Labour Ordinance 19351.

  • The said Ordinance is hereby amended by repealing section 9.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order repeals section 9 of the Union Islands Labour Ordinance 1935. That section provides that if any native who has signed an agreement to serve an employer outside the Tokelau Islands fails to leave those islands for the purpose of carrying out that agreement, he is guilty of an offence.

Issued under the authority of the Regulations Act 1936.
