(1) These regulations may be cited as the Police (United Nations) Regulations 1964.

(2) These regulations shall be deemed to have come into force on the 14th day of May 1964.

In these regulations, unless the context otherwise requires, the term unit means a unit of the New Zealand Police forming part of a United Nations force.

(1) These regulations apply to any unit of the Police forming part of a United Nations force.

(2) For the purpose of these regulations a unit shall be deemed to form part of a United Nations force from the time the unit leaves New Zealand to undertake duties with such a force until the unit returns to New Zealand.

The Police Regulations 1959¹ shall apply to a unit and to the members thereof, with the following modifications:

• (a) The Officer in Charge of a unit shall, subject to the control of the Commissioner, have the control of the unit and the control and direction of all members of the unit, in accordance with the Police Act 1958, the Police Regulations 1959², and General Instructions.

• (b) For the purposes of the aforesaid duties, the Officer in Charge of a unit shall have and may exercise all the powers, duties, and functions of an Officer in Charge of a district, and any reference in the Police Regulations 1959³ to the Officer in Charge of a district shall, where appropriate, include the Officer in Charge of a unit.

• (c) The following acts or omissions shall, if committed by a member of a unit, be offences of misconduct or neglect of duty on the part of the member:

  • (i) Any act of misconduct which, if committed in New Zealand, is a summary offence under any statute, regulation, or bylaw for the time being in force in New Zealand and which the Officer in Charge has directed to be dealt with as a disciplinary offence:

  • (ii) Any act of misconduct which, if committed in New Zealand, is an indictable offence and which the Minister or the Commissioner has directed to be dealt with as a disciplinary offence:

  • (iii) Wilfully violating any general order issued by the Officer in Charge of a unit—

  and, for the purposes of these regulations, regulation 46 of the Police Regulations 1959⁴, shall be read as if the aforesaid offences were included in the offences set out in that regulation.
