Fisheries (Quota Management Areas, Total Allowable Catches, and Catch Histories) Amendment Notice (No 3) 2000

Pursuant to sections 28C and 28OB of the Fisheries Act 1983, the Minister of Fisheries, after having regard to the matters specified in section 28D of that Act, gives the following notice.

  • This notice comes into force on 1 October 2000.

3 Total allowable commercial catch for elephant fish

  • Schedule 1 of the principal notice is amended by omitting item D of the item relating to elephant fish, and substituting the following item:

    D South-East (Coast) and South-East (Chatham Rise) combined 3 & 4 825
4 Total allowable commercial catch for ling

  • Schedule 1 of the principal notice is amended by omitting items D and E of the item relating to ling, and substituting the following items:

    D South-East (Coast) 3 2060

5 Total allowable commercial catch for orange roughy

  • Schedule 1 of the principal notice is amended by omitting items A, B, C, D, F of the item relating to orange roughy, and substituting the following items:

  • Schedule 1 of the principal notice is amended by omitting item B of the item relating to oreo dories, and substituting the following item:

7 Total allowable commercial catch for paua

  • Schedule 1 of the principal notice is amended by omitting item E of the item relating to paua, and substituting the following item:

8 Total allowable commercial catch for rig

  • Schedule 1 of the principal notice is amended by omitting item E of the item relating to rig, and substituting the following item:

Explanatory Note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice, which comes into force on 1 October 2000, sets total allowable commercial catches (TACCs) for certain fishstocks as follows:

  • the TACC for elephant fish in area 3 is increased from 500 tonnes to 825 tonnes

  • the TACC for ling in area 3 is reduced from 2810 tonnes to 2060 tonnes

  • the TACC for ling in area 4 is reduced from 5720 tonnes to 4200 tonnes

  • the TACC for orange roughy in area 1 is reduced from 1190 tonnes to 800 tonnes

  • the TACC for orange roughy in area 2A is reduced from 1261 tonnes to 1100 tonnes

  • the TACC for orange roughy in area 2B is reduced from 259 tonnes to 185 tonnes

  • the TACC for orange roughy in area 3A is reduced from 580 tonnes to 415 tonnes

  • the TACC for orange roughy in area 7A is reduced from 1425 tonnes to 1 tonne

  • the TACC for oreo dories in area 3A is reduced from 5900 tonnes to 4400 tonnes

  • the TACC for paua in area 5B is reduced from 143.984 tonnes to 112.187 tonnes. The TACC for paua in areas 5A and 5D is increased from 147.66 to 148.983 as a result of decisions of the Quota Appeal Authority

  • the TACC for rig in area 3 is increased from 453.9 tonnes to 600 tonnes.
