Pursuant to the Term Poll Act 1990, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby makes the following order.
Order
1 Title
This order may be cited as the Term Poll Order 1990.
2 Interpretation
Terms and expressions used in this order that are defined in the Term Poll Act 1990 have the meanings so defined.
3 Declaration of result of term poll
Thursday, 29 November 1990 is fixed as the day on or before which, pursuant to section 15 of the Term Poll Act 1990, the Chief Electoral Officer shall ascertain and declare—
(a)
the total number of valid votes recorded for the proposal that section 17(1) of the Constitution Act 1986 be amended by changing the term of Parliament; and
(b)
the total number of valid votes recorded against that proposal; and
(c)
the result of the poll as so determined.

Explanatory note
This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.
This order fixes 29 November 1990 as the date on or before which the Chief Electoral Officer must ascertain and declare, in accordance with section 15 of the Term Poll Act 1990, the total numbers of valid votes in favour and against the proposal to extend the term of Parliament and the result of the poll.
The Term Poll Act 1990 provides for a poll to be taken in conjunction with the 1990 general election on the proposal to extend the term of Parliament from 3 to 4 years.

1 General
This is a consolidation of the Term Poll Order 1990 that incorporates the amendments made to the legislation so that it shows the law as at its stated date.
2 Legal status
A consolidation is taken to correctly state, as at its stated date, the law enacted or made by the legislation consolidated and by the amendments. This presumption applies unless the contrary is shown.
