This order is administered in the Ministry of Transport.

PURSUANT to section 1(2) of the Mercantile Law Amendment Act 1994, Her Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby makes the following order.

  • This order may be cited as the Mercantile Law Amendment Act Commencement Order 1994.

2 Commencement of Mercantile Law Amendment Act 1994

  • The Mercantile Law Amendment Act 1994 shall come into force on the 1st day of February 1995.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order brings into force, on 1 February 1995, the Mercantile Law Amendment Act 1994. The Act updates the existing law relating to bills of lading and overcomes difficulties that cargo receivers formerly faced in suing cargo carriers.

Issued under the authority of the Acts and Regulations Publication Act 1989.
