Note
This order is administered in the Ministry of Transport.
PURSUANT to sections 1(2) and 221 of the Maritime Transport Act 1994, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby makes the following order.
1 Title
This order may be cited as the Maritime Transport Act Commencement Order 1996.
2 Commencement of Part 26 of Maritime Transport Act 1994
Part 26 of the Maritime Transport Act 1994 shall come into force on the 20th day of February 1997.

Explanatory note
This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.
This order brings into force, on 20 February 1997, Part 26 of the Maritime Transport Act 1994.
Part 26 relates to compensation from the International Oil Pollution Compensation Fund for oil pollution damage.
The bringing into force of Part 26 is necessary to enable New Zealand to ratify the International Convention on the Establishment of an International Fund for Compensation for Oil Pollution Damage, 1971.
Issued under the authority of the Acts and Regulations Publication Act 1989.
