Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order brings the Misuse of Drugs (Changes to Controlled Drugs) Order 2005 into force on 9 September 2005. That order amends Schedule 2 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975 in order to reclassify amphetamine and MDMA as controlled drugs in Part 1 of Schedule 2 ( “Class B1” controlled drugs). Their former classification was as controlled drugs in Part 2 of Schedule 2 ( “Class B2” controlled drugs).

The order requires the approval of the House of Representatives before it comes into force. The House of Representatives approved the order on 2 August 2005.
