Explanatory note

This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.

These regulations, which come into force on the 28th day after the date of their notification in the Gazette, amend the Fisheries (Central Area Commercial Fishing) Regulations 1986 by revoking regulation 15, which prohibits the taking of eels in certain areas. That provision is now redundant, since Maori commercial fishing rights, as settled through the Treaty of Waitangi (Fisheries Claims) Settlement Act 1992, are now managed through the quota management system.
