This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.

These regulations, which come into force on 4 December 2006, amend the Land Transport (Driver Licensing and Driver Testing Fees) Regulations 1999.

A drafting amendment is made to Part 1 of the Schedule.

Part 4 of the Schedule, which sets out driver testing fees, is amended to reflect changes made to the Land Transport (Driver Licensing) Rule 1999 (Land Transport 91001) by the Land Transport (Driver Licensing) Amendment Rule (No 2) 2006.

The effect of those changes is that persons aged 80 years or over are no longer required to pass a test of practical driving skills in order to renew their driver licences. Instead, persons aged 75 years or over who are required to provide a medical certificate to obtain a driver licence (including a renewal of a licence) may now be referred for the practical driving skills test (now called the on-road safety test) if the person assessing medical fitness has significant doubts about their ability to drive safely even though they are assessed as medically fit.
