1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (High Seas Fishing Notifications) Notice 2007.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

3 Notification of global, regional, or subregional fisheries organisation or arrangement

For the purposes of Part 6A of the Fisheries Act 1996 and the definition of global, regional, or subregional organisation or arrangement in section 113B of that Act, notice is given—
- (a) of the Report of the Third International Meeting on the Establishment of the proposed South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation; and
- (b) that the Report is an arrangement within the meaning of that definition.

4 Notification of international conservation and management measures

For the purposes of Part 6A of the Fisheries Act 1996 and the definition of international conservation and management measures in section 113B of that Act, notice is given—
- (a) of the interim measures adopted by the Report referred to in clause 3(a); and
- (b) that the interim measures are measures within the meaning of that definition.

Copies of the arrangement referred to in clause 3 and the measures referred to in clause 4 can be obtained from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Wellington.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice, which comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette, notifies—

the Report of the Third International Meeting on the Establishment of the proposed South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation as constituting a global, regional, or subregional fisheries organisation or arrangement within the definition of that term in section 113B of the Fisheries Act 1996; and
the interim measures adopted by that Report as constituting international conservation and management measures within the definition of that term in section 113B of the Fisheries Act 1996.

The definitions have relevance for the purposes of Part 6A of the Fisheries Act 1996, which deals with high seas fishing.

Copies of the Report and the interim measures can be obtained from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Wellington.
