1 Title

This order is the Infectious and Notifiable Disease (Invasive Pneumococcal Disease) Order 2008.

2 Commencement

This order comes into force on the 28th day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

3 Schedule 1 of Health Act 1956 amended

Section B of Part 1 of Schedule 1 of the Health Act 1956 is amended by inserting the following item in its appropriate alphabetical order: “Invasive pneumococcal disease”.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order, which comes into force on the 28th day after the date of its notification in the Gazette, inserts an item relating to invasive pneumococcal disease in section B of Part 1 of Schedule 1 of the Health Act 1956. Section B of Part 1 of Schedule 1 lists infectious diseases notifiable to a medical officer of health. Adding invasive pneumococcal disease to this list allows the Ministry of Health to collect the necessary data to assess the impact of a pneumococcal vaccination programme that started on 1 June 2008.
