Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order brings into force, on 1 August 2010, the Tariff (Malaysia Free Trade Agreement) Amendment Act 2010.

The Tariff (Malaysia Free Trade Agreement) Amendment Act 2010 amends the Tariff Act 1988 to implement a free trade agreement, namely the Malaysia–New Zealand Free Trade Agreement done at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 26 October 2009 (the Malaysia FTA).

At the time of the making of this order, the text of the Malaysia FTA was available at—

The Malaysia FTA will also be implemented by regulations to enable the application of preferential tariff rates for imports originating from Malaysia. The associated regulations are—

• the Tariff (Malaysia Free Trade Agreement) Amendment Order 2010; and

• the Customs and Excise (Rules of Origin for Malaysia Free Trade Agreement Goods) Amendment Regulations 2010.
