This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order, which comes into force on 20 December 2013, prohibits the export of cattle, deer, goats, and sheep for slaughter, except with the consent of the chief executive of the Ministry for Primary Industries and subject to any conditions, not inconsistent with the prohibition, that he or she specifies.

This order continues the prohibition under the Customs Export Prohibition (Livestock for Slaughter) Order 2010 (the 2010 order), and is on the same terms as the 2010 order (except that the definition of Director-General in clause 3 is updated to remove a reference to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, which no longer exists). The 2010 order is revoked.

Under section 56(5)(b) of the Customs and Excise Act 1996 (the Act), this order expires on the close of 31 December 2014 except so far as it is expressly confirmed by Act of Parliament passed before that date. Even if confirmed completely in that way, this order is, in accordance with section 57 of the Act, revoked on the close of 20 December 2016 (clause 6) unless it is sooner revoked or extended for a further period of up to 3 years.
